A holy warrior decides the fate of a kingdom.

This work is set on Sakura Island in 841, when the demonic plague Pestilence spreads through the kingdom, and rebel forces and the local government are fighting for control. Confront the chaos of people’s hardships and large-scale political battles, and carve out the fate of the kingdom by further combating the evil that infests the continent.

This work claims to be “an exciting full-scale action RPG that overturns the conventional wisdom of the genre.” ” Wicked Inside: Showcase ” held on March 2nd, Japan time, introduced the charm of this work for about 25 minutes, from the details of the story to the detailed world and gameplay system (YouTube Japanese subtitles are also available).

A story centered around politics and epidemics

In 841, King Harol passed away. At the same time, rumors begin to spread about the return of a great plague called Pestilence. The main character of this work, Selim, is a member of an ancient cult dedicated to eradicating plagues. Ordered to investigate the rumors, Selim boarded a merchant ship and headed to Sakura Island, far from the mainland. However, the ship is stolen from the island by a rebel force called “Rizun”, crashes into a reef, and becomes shipwrecked. When Selim wakes up on the shore of Sakura Island, all his weapons and equipment are gone. While wandering the island in search of a path forward, Selim becomes embroiled in a large-scale political conflict and a battle for survival.

A carefully selected world view

Sakura Island is a vibrant world filled with great detail. The protagonist moves freely through a vibrant, seamless and interactive game world. You can climb places you think you can, and even places that seem too narrow to cross at first glance can be reached by walking while keeping your balance. Whether walking, climbing, or jumping, players must make their own decisions. Abandoning the common “click where you want to go” method, this game uses WASD and controller controls. Search every nook and cranny and you may find hidden places and treasures.

Sakura Island is constantly changing. Even if you’ve explored a location before, new threats and resources await when you return. Even in the same region, things unfold very differently each time you visit.

play your way

“No Rest for the Wicked” uses a soft class system. In other words, weapon selection is more important than class/role. Status points gained by leveling up can be spent on HP, Intelligence, Dexterity, Strength, and Stamina. Ability scores such as Intelligence, Dexterity, and Strength are directly reflected in weapon power. There are no limits to character builds. It is possible to build things beyond our imagination!

fierce battle

Animation-driven combat system requires planned and deliberate attacks. To defeat your enemies, you must act quickly and attack at the right moment. Enemies whose attacks are parried will be temporarily weakened. Travel and timing are also important. Evasion actions are determined by your movement speed, but don’t rush. Every action always has an invincibility frame:

  • For fast and nimble characters, it is best to avoid enemy attacks with quick footwork.
  • If you are a balanced type who is neither fast nor slow, roll to avoid the attack.
  • If your strength is strong but your movements are slow, your evasion animation will be slow, making you more likely to be hit by attacks, but you can instead use a tackle to knock the enemy away.

Each weapon is different and no two are the same. Each weapon has a stance. You can also attach retrofits, so you can have various merchants customize your weapon to suit you. Furthermore, if you carve a rune, additional effects will be granted! In combat, weapons are an extension of your body. Timing, distance, weight, and movement must be in harmony.

rebuilding the city

During the journey, the protagonist will stop by Sacramento, the capital of Sakura Island. You can also help restore this war-torn city to its former glory. Buy a property and decorate it to your liking. With dozens of properties available for purchase and a no-grid indoor design system, you can create your own unique place to call home. You can also fish on the coast, cut down trees, and mine ore. These resources can be used to build new equipment, meals, furniture, and even better facilities for Sacramento.

“No Rest for the Wicked”, which attracts attention with its unique visual style typical of Moon Studios, is scheduled to be released for Windows ( Steam ) / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S . As mentioned above, the early access version will be distributed on Steam on April 19th.
